The wild, little-visited Bicaj Canyon (Kanioni i Bicajt) can be found near the village of the same name about 15 kilometres south of Kukës on the main road towards Dibër. It is a 2.5-kilometer-long gorge with cliffs as high as 300 metres and barely four metres wide in certain areas. An amazing natural wonder in the Kukës region.
The locals also call the canyon The Evil Stairs (alb. Shkalla e Keqe): after the stream that flows through the gorge and separates the distinct mountain massifs of Gjallicë and Kolesjan. The end of the gorge is about a kilometre from the village of Bicaj, where you can park your car or get dropped off from the bus on the Kukës–Peshkopia route.
To go through the canyon could be recommended only to real adventure enthusiasts since it requires a lot of jumping over the boulders and wading. Overall, it’s a physically demanding undertaking that’s more like canyoning. But you can see the canyon also from above if you take the path from Bicaj towards the village of Tërshenë (map with GPS route here).
