Lezha Castle (Kalaja e Lezhës) is perched on a hill just above the town of Lezhë. Ottoman, Byzantine, Roman, and Illyrian architectural elements may all be seen in it. Buildings and towers are mediaeval, although the original fortifications date back to the 4th century BC. In addition to a dungeon, there are the remnants of a chapel and a mosque.
During the reign of the Albanian national hero Skanderbeg in the 15th century, the castle was part of a network of stongholds along which signal information was effectively transmitted in good weather. In the north direction, it is 45 kilometres to Rozafa Castle in Shkodër. Just a little more it is southwards to Kruja Castle.

An asphalt road leads to the castle. The walk from the town centre is strenuous and takes at least thirty minutes. Your efforts will be repaid with stunning views of Lezhë and the adjacent Adriatic shore. You can drive almost all the way to the castle; the parking lot is about 200 meters from the entrance. The entrance fee is 300 lek.
